Walsall’s outside half, Matt Wood, produced a superb kicking performance to give his team another win in Midlands One. He put over all four of his penalty attempts, including a superb forty five meter effort to make it 9 – 0 after thirty minutes. He added another one just before the half time whistle to complete the scoring for the hosts. Not only did Wood produce an impeccable place kicking display, but he also constantly pinned Whitchurch back in their own half with some very well placed positional kicks. The Walsall forwards worked hard in all aspects of the game, while their backs produced some very good work in defence. Both teams squandered try scoring opportunities, but it was the visitors who had the satisfaction of scoring the only try. A fine break from deep in their own half resulted in winger Matt Woodhouse scoring wide out with just over five minutes left. It was, once again, a tense finish at Delves Road, with both teams pressing forward. But the hosts hung on to take both points.
