Walsall struggle to find form

Walsall under 14’s V Shrewsbury
Sunday 2nd March 2014
Walsall were on their travels again this week. This time up the M54 to Shrewsbury. With quite a few regulars unavailable, some others found themselves playing out of position. Walsall kicked off with the wind behind them and were soon in the score board when following some driving runs from 2nd row pair Noah Griffiths and Edward Malliband, the ball was spun wide for Cameron Kirkbride to cross for a try that was converted by Jamie Harding. However, Shrewsbury were not about to lie down and came back with an unconverted try of their own. Walsall were not p[laying at their best and quite a few passes were being dropped or not going to hand. However when the ball did go wide out Cameron Kirkbride pace showed ands he crossed for his second try which was unconverted. Before half time Shrewsbury were back in contention again when a fumbled ball from a kick ahead allowed them to cross for their second try leaving the half time score 12 – 10 to Walsall.
In the second half the pattern of dropped passes and missed chances continued for Walsall until a fine pass from returning Rory Rollason put George Perkins through a gap to score under the posts and this was converted by Jamie Harding. The final try gave Cameron Kirkbride his hat trick when he broke from deep to score under the posts for Jamie Harding to convert. He could have had a fourth too if he had not dropped the ball as he was going over the line. All in all it was a frustrating day for Walsall
