Walsall under 14’s V Birmingham Solihull

On a bright sunny morning Walsall welcomed Birmingham Solihull to Walsall for the first time. Walsall were grateful for the game but it turned out to be a bit one sided. After kicking off Walsall were soon on the scoreboard after securing possession at a ruck, the ball was spun out for Nico Watkins to run in the first of his three tries. It was converted by William Hennessey. Birmingham Solihull thewn exerted some pressure on Walsall but were unable to break through. With Walsall pinned on their own 22, Prop Shame Wright suddenly broke free of a maul and sprinted through the opposition all the way to the line to score. This was also converted by William Hennessey. The third try was un in by Cameron Kirkbride after some quick passing. This meant that Cameron has scored a try in every game this season. The try was converted by Nico Watkins. The nother tries in the first half were by Ollie Mascoll, his first for the club, which was converted by Nico Watkins, Sam Garbett, who chased up a kick ahead very well to score the first of his three tries and a second for Nico Watkins, both converted by William Hennessey. Half time score Walsall 42 – Birmingham Solihull 0.
The second half continued the same way with Walsall players changing position a fair bit and a debut for newcomer Abdullah Baig. Sam Garbett soon scored his second try but then Birmingham Solihull hit back witrh a fine break form the scrum half to score a converted try. This was followed by unconverted tries by Rhys Gaddu and Nico Watkins before Bees again scored through a scrum half break. The final score was for Sam Garbett’s hat trick. A good result for Walsall which leaves them with a fine record at the end of the regular season. They now have a 10’s tournament at Old Coventrians and a 7’s tournament at Kettering to round off the season.
