We have heard the news that Pat Morgan, club member and Vice President, has sadly died.
Everyone who has been a member of this club for any substantial time will know of Pat who was a kind, supportive and effective member of the club over many years.
He was educated at Queen Mary's Grammar School, under the tuition of Dick Hopkins and was a contempory of Bill Perkins, Roy Mellor and Les Thorley . Pat excelled at sports and first played for Walsall in 1956 as an elusive winger. He went on to play for the next 20 years at 1st xv level and is probably the most prolific try scorer in the club's history. He also excelled at most other sports but rugby was his first love.
He was a keen tourist and went on many club tours in the 50's and 60's particularly with Staffordshire and Walsall to Mulhouse. He also had a very sharp wit and was prominent throughout the 60's and 70's in the infamous Smokers evenings. He was made a Vice President in the 1960's and continued to take a big interest in the club until the current day. He was last at the club for the Centenary celebrations where he met up with his old team mate Terry Cobner.
His working life started off with Bill Perkins at Binks Bullows paint sprayers and then after the demise of Binks Bullows worked for Frank Swinnerton at Goodfellows, running the Ablewell Street depot. Pat didn't marry and lived on the Broadway until he moved to the Birmingham Road.
It is hoped to organise a celebration of Pat's life at the club in the near future where we can raise a glass to drink to the memory of him. Details will be shared once known.
