Following Lichfield's refusal to play the planned game in the Staffs cup Walsall Colts were put through to the Staffs Plate on Sunday.
Although the sun was shining, a deceptively cold wind was blowing as Walsall travelled to Burntwood for the quarter final of the Staffs Plate.

Walsall made a determined start and within 5 minutes, Jordan Lay (winger) had taken a quick ball from the forwards and outpaced a strong defence to score in the left hand corner.

Despite this great start , Walsall were playing against the wind which slowed them down and exaggerated mistakes. Burntwood took advantage and had more territory than their visitors but despite being camped on the Walsall line for much of the first half, a strong defence stopped them from scoring a try. Walsall did concede a penalty which made the score line closer.

However, following a catch and drive 5 metres from the Burntwood line, well managed by Second Row, Michael Lockett, Liam Taylor (prop) secured another try. Following this, Burntwood's frustration boiled over resulting in a couple of incidents off the ball and 2 players were yellow carded.

Walsall went into the second half leading 10 - 3 and with the wind on their side. However, apart from a penalty ably taken by Jordan Lay, Walsall were unable to add any more points to their score. Burntwood finally scored and there was a very tense moment when they kicked the ball over our line although Jordan Lay outpaced them in the race to the ball preventing them from leveling the score.
