Defence key to away win over table toppers B&S.

B’ham/Solihull Colts 7 Walsall Colts 12

Walsall colts ended the league leaders unbeaten, high scoring run with a fine display of attacking and defensive rugby. The first 20 minutes saw both teams squaring up unable to break the deadlock. Eventually Walsall managed to run the ball wide, Max Hughes and Charlie Wrighton combining well with Charlie Wrighton eventually scoring in the corner.
Birmingham continued to pressurize Walsall at every opportunity, however, the Walsall defence remained solid keeping them a clean sheet at the break.
Walsall started the second half attacking the Birmingham line with Birmingham now showing great commitment in defence. Joe Brown then pounced on a mistake by Birmingham kicking the ball through their defence for himself and Charlie Wrighton to race for the vital touch, eventually made by Joe Brown. Ben Tipson kicked a huge convertion from the touchline.
Birmingham continued to attack but were still unable to penetrate the solid Walsall defence. Eventually with 15 minutes to go, Birmingham broke through the Walsall line to score a try under the posts which was converted.
The final 10 minutes again saw Birmingham attacking the Walsall line but unable to make the crucial breakthrough with Walsall showing total solidity in defence.
Walsall now have a break due to a bye in the first round of the National Colts cup. Their next league fixture is at home against Bromsgrove on October 2nd.
