Walsall’s young Colts team produced an impressive performance as they achieved a convincing victory over a previously unbeaten Bromsgrove side. The crucial factor in this convincing victory was the pace at which the Walsall outfit played the game. This was demonstrated in the opening five minutes as the ball was moved wide to Javan Jarrett. The speedy winger showed some superb running skills to get Walsall’s first try. The forwards were also always keen to run with the ball, and a charge through the midfield set up a try for outside half Ben Tipson. Soon afterwards it was lock forward Alex Hawthorn that showed his strength and speed as he crashed over wide out. Laured Kalari produced a good run before passing to put Steve Paddock over for the next score.
Javan Jarrett got his second late in the first half. He intercepted a Bromsgrove pass and then had to out-sprint his three chasers for eighty meters before touching down under the posts. The half came to an end as Tipson made a long cross field kick which was gathered by Max Hughes before diving over.
Bromsgrove hit back early in the second half with a try after a quickly taken penalty. But the hosts were soon adding to their total as Hughes got his second from a close range lineout. Speedy winger Joe Brown finished off well for Walsall’s eighth try after full back Liam Fossett had made a good run. Tipson kicked five conversions, which included his final kick after prop forward Tariq Tin had supported a good attack to get the final touchdown?
