Spluttering start but smooth finish.

Score does not reflect how slow the Bears were to get going.

Whether it was going to be too easy or whether the weather was unseasonably warm or it was too windy or whether players were out of position or whether the 7 man scrum threw the team out of kilter, it took a good 20 mins for Walsall Colts to get the measure of visitors Camp Hill and start to exert some control over the game.

An early try by Robbie Edgar was no reflection on how badly the Walsall machine stuttered in the open exchanges. Passes were droppped or fell short, the line did not run from deep and the forwards were being meet with determined resistance up front by visitors Camp Hill. Ben Tipson extended the lead shortly after but it took a fine solo effort from Ryan Doolan, running from the half wawy line and muscling his way throught the defence, to snap Walsall into action. Ben Tipson converted and added a second after Jevan Jarrett out sprinted the defence to score under the posts. A bright finish to an otherwise forgetable half of rugby.

If the first half was Mr Hyde, the second half was Dr Jekyll. Walsall started to win clean phase ball up front and the passing now seemed to go to hand as the ball was moved wide. Javan Jarrett and Robbie Edgar both added second tries with Ben Tipson slotting a conversion. Both Liam Fussell, showing excellent support work to run in under the posts, and Steve Paddock, making short work of weak defending, gave Ben Tipson his two easiest conversion of the game. Credit to Charlie Wrighton for several selfless off-load assists when he could have had a go for the line himself. With the score now 50-0 the referee blew for time with 20 mins to go. Clinical work by Walsall in the second half contrasted the sloppy performance of the first.

Credit to Camp Hill, who turned up one short, yet were eager to play and stuck at it throughout.
