This was a fiercely charged game in wet and windy conditions where ball handling skills were difficult for both teams. In first 15 minutes Walsall piled the pressure on the opposition and threatened the line several times. Finally Walsall Back , Jordan Lay, broke through a determined defence to put the first points on the board. Walsall continued to control the match and had the majority of possession and territory and were the better disciplined team. However, a momentary lapse of concentration and a careless pass in the final minutes of the second half allowed Wolverhampton to seize the opportunity and to take the lead 7-5.

Walsall returned strongly in the second half and two more tries followed from Danny Maynard and Robert Angell. Walsall defended well and continued to maintain greater discipline and Wolverhampton were not able to come back.
