Freezing cold rain and a biting strong wind made open play very difficult and this was therefore a match dominated by forward play. The first 20 minutes was fiercely contested but the home team did not allow the visitors to gain ground. Walsall broke through first when Forward, Ryan Tamilio beat a fierce defence to touch down although there was deemed to be a forward pass and the try was disallowed.
Walsall continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded when Tom Oram kicked a loose ball from a catch and drive and outpaced his opponent to the line and touched down. Evesham responded well and came back hard and although Walsall defended well the visitors managed to even up the scores at half time to 5-5.
Walsall were much superior in the second half dominating possession and territory. The forwards completely excelled making strong fearless, tackles and defended well with some thumping hits. The opposition were not allowed much of the ball but when our line was challenged they could not find a way through. The winning try came when, after several phases of strong forward play, the ball was passed to winger Jordan Lay who rounded his opponent using speed and agility and scored in the corner.
Men of the match were Liam Taylor and Tom Oram.
