Moving into the Bridgnorth game, Walsall U7's were looking to continue their good run of form and try at take away as many wins as possible.
Frustration set in early as only three games were organised resulting in the players having to stop and start playing at regular intervals.
A Walsall squad of 13 were split into the following two teams:
Team 1:

The first game saw team 1 lose narrowly 9-7 to Bridgnorth with tries coming from Rhys (4), Maxwell (2) and Charlie P (1). The muddy and wet conditions clearly didn't suit Walsall with there being a number of spilled balls resulting in a loss of possession. Never the less the team fought hard to try and pull back the match but unfortunately ended up losing by two tries. Despite the loss it was particularly pleasing to see the team begin to function and organise themselves in defence with some very good tagging.

The second game saw team 2 now face a changed Bridgnorth team however this time coming out with an 8-5 win. Tries in this game came from Freddie P (3), Ben W (3), James (1) and Chase (1). From reffing the game my comparison between the two games would be that the players in team 2 appeared to keep focus throughout the game, led in particular by Freddie with some superb tagging and scoring. This maintained focus saw greater organisation in defence to stop a strong Bridgnorth team from scoring. Well done boys!

The final game saw the two teams have a half each in an extended game. The match ended as a 8-8 draw with tries coming from Rhys (2), Maxwell (2), James (2), Charlie P (1) and Jonathan (1). It was pleasing to see in this match that the tries are being shared amongst the team showing the progression of the whole squad with not just the leading players scoring all the tries.

Looking forward towards training next week but ultimately the festival in the future I would say the squad is in a very good position. The consistency of tagging seems to be improving greatly with some superb tags throughout the course of the three matches.
Areas where I feel we can improve is maintaining a good line in defence and not running off in 1s and 2s as well as in attack really concentrating on, when tagged, passing more accurately to a team mate as well as keeping control of the ball when running with it.

Although many had left before I had the chance to give out star of the week, it was given to Freddie P. I thought his leadership in attack as well as his aggression in defence saw him put in a superb performance this Sunday. In addition to this, I'd like to mention how much the coaches are looking forward to seeing Freddie progress when the game moves to contact at U9's level with some ferocious although not quite legal tackling at the moment. Well done Freddie! Keep it up!
